Hackthorne Gardens

Formerly Hackthorne House, Hackthorne Gardens is a mansion in the Cashmere Hills of Christchurch. Built in 1928 and designed to emulate a stately English residence, the odd element of Art Deco flair features here and there, as was the flavour of the era.

From 1965 to 1987 it was the Shirley and Grace Hohepa Home for intellectually handicapped children, following which it has served as upmarket, boutique accommodation in several iterations.

The property was purchased by Huadu International’s Mr Wang Jianping in 2015 as his residence when he was in Christchurch on business. However, he preferred such a fine property be shared with others and has transformed the place into hotel style luxury accommodation with nine beautifully appointed rooms and an additional twelve rooms to be built onsite in the near future.
